What Does Landscape Lighting Cost?
As a consumer, this is probably the first question you want answered when considering landscape lighting. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer. I wish I could just tell someone that it is always a set $300 per fixture but it just does not work that way. There are many different factors that contribute to the cost.
- Project Size: This one may seem obvious, but I don’t just mean the number of fixtures. It also matters how large the property is and how long the lines are going to be between fixtures. Trenching long distances across a large stretch of land requires more labor and wire which will impact the cost of a lighting system. A fixture on the house right next to the transformer may cost $250 to install while a light on a tree 500 feet away will certainly cost more.
- Fixture Type: There are numerous product lines to choose from when looking into outdoor lighting. We offer multiple options such as mid-grade, premium, and a premium color changing option. The price increases as you move up each tier. You can sacrifice the better warranties and fixture material to save money but do risk the chance of the fixtures not lasting as long which may lead to replacing them in the future.
- Application: When pricing out a lighting system, we must take into consideration where the lights are going. Is it a simple, ground level install on the home? Are we core drilling into the concrete to place well lights? Are we going to need a lift to reach a third story light? All these components will influence the price of the system.
Although an easy price per fixture over the phone isn’t possible, a good rule of thumb is that a lighting system should cost approximately 1-3% of your home’s value. Keep this in mind when calling for an outdoor lighting estimate!
